PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress unnecessary power consumption by controlling the speed at which an optical disk rotates in recording on the optical disk. SOLUTION: A power consumption information acquisition means of a drive 1 examines whether or not an energy-saving mode is set in a host computer 2 when a request of recording (a WRITE command) is transmitted to the drive device 1 from the host computer 2. If the energy-saving mode is set in the host computer 2, a rotation controlling mode selecting means of the drive 1 sets a recording system by a rotation controlling means to a CAV (constant angular velocity) system. If the energy-saving mode is not set, data recording into a disk 3 is started in each recording mode (CLV (constant linear velocity) or CAV). COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
