PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device which reads images photographed on a photographic film, automatically switches without mask replacement a mask size so as to match the size of a frame to be read, shortens mask switching time, and contributes to a reduction in the number of components. SOLUTION: The image reading device has: a light source as a reading light; an image sensor; an imaging optical system which images transmitted light onto the light receiving surface of the image sensor, the transmissive light carrying an image emitted from the light source and transmitted through a photographic film; and a transmission type display, disposed in an optical path from the light source to the image sensor, which alters a light transmission area by presenting image display corresponding to the image reading area of the photographic film.
