摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bright optical system capable of reducing the effective F number of an illuminating optical system without changing the rotational angle of a fine mirror element constituting a DMD by separating illuminating beam from a projecting beam in the DMD by using a polarization beam splitter prism, and to optionally set an illuminating luminous flux direction and a projecting luminous flux direction. SOLUTION: Light rays uniform in polarization direction are projected from the illuminating optical system 20. Light rays from the optical system 20 are made incident on the DMD 70, and light rays, on which video information modulated by the DMD 70 is carried, are guided into a projecting optical system 80 by the polarization beam splitter prism 50. A beam made incident on the DMD 70 is split from a beam projected from the DMD 70 by the polarization beam splitter surface 51 of the prism 50. A 1/4λphase difference plate 60 for rotating the polarization direction is arranged between the polarization beam splitter surface 51 and the DMD 70. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
