PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of imparting information necessary for succeeding processing to a user in the case of exchanging a liquid crystal light valve. SOLUTION: The projector is equipped with a light valve discrimination means 12 discriminating the liquid crystal light valve attached in exchanging based on the identification information of every liquid crystal valve when any of the liquid crystal light valves 3R, 3G and 3B is exchanged, a data transmitting and receiving circuit 11 fetching a specified value inherent to every liquid crystal light valve utilized for the control of the liquid crystal light valve into the projector, an informing function to urge the user to fetch the specified value concerning the liquid crystal light valve discriminated by the discrimination means 12 into the projector through the circuit 11 and a download means 16 for such operation.
