<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer with high printing efficiency by optimizing a packet size in the transfer processing of print data. <P>SOLUTION: A printer for receiving and printing print data from a host computer is provided with an interface task for returning the transmission packet size of print data in response to a first request from the host computer at starting print, and for returning the number of receivable transmission packets in response to a second request from the host computer to request the number of transmission packets, and for receiving print data of the returned number of transmission packets from the host computer, a buffer for temporarily storing the print data transmitted from the host computer, and a printing task for processing the print data stored in the buffer, and for commanding print to a print engine.
