<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fault monitoring system capable of notifying an optical transmission path end apparatus about a fault generated in a non-selection system transmission path without switching the transmission path. <P>SOLUTION: Reproducing repeaters (6, 7) of first and second optical transmission paths for doubling a transmission path each have fault detecting means (24, 24') for detecting the occurrence of faults on transmission paths from received signals. The fault monitoring system is characterized by having a fault location specifying means (25) for generating fault information including information specifying the occurrence of a fault and the occurring location of the fault on the basis of the fault information outputted from the fault detecting means of the repeaters (6, 7) forming a pair, and transmitting the fault information to the optical transmission path end apparatus (1) via a selection system transmission path. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
