PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long fiber optic sensor that can be installed easily, and to provide a method of manufacturing the sensor. SOLUTION: The long fiber optic sensor is constituted in a composite state so that a plurality of long optical fibers 10 for observing the variation of environmental conditions lie in a uniform positional relation in the cross section of the sensor. The fibers 10 are embedded in the resin wall of a resin tube 20 or a resin belt, that can be fabricated into a cylindrical shape so that the fibers 10 are maintained in the uniform positional relation in the cross section. Since the fiber optic sensor can be carried in a compact state by bending the sensor, after the required positional relations among the fibers 10 are secured, the burden of the preparatory work performed for securing the positional relations and of the installing work of the sensor at a job site are reduced.
