PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet carrier for efficiently correcting positional slippage of a sheet in the width direction and correcting its skewed posture relative to the sheet carrying direction. SOLUTION: A sheet detection line sensor 17 detects the position of a sheet in the width direction which is a direction orthogonal to the sheet carrying direction and its skewing posture relative to the sheet carrying direction. The sensor 17 is disposed in the carrying direction on the downstream side of a pair of carrier rollers 13 and 14 having rotational axes on a same widthwise axis line. The carried state of a sheet is detected by the sensor 17. The moving direction and moving distance of the sheet in the width direction, and the moving direction and moving distance thereof in the skewing direction, are calculated while correction values are found respectively. Based on the correction values, pulse motors 11 and 12 are independently controlled to drive the rollers 13 and 14, thereby carrying the sheet in normal posture. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
