PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic search unit which uniformizes the radiation of heat of an MR sensor pattern reducing the rotational speed of a magnetic drum integrally rotated along with a rotor or a change in MR sensor output to detect accurate position data. SOLUTION: This ultrasonic search unit is equipped with a transducer of ultrasonic waves, a position detection means for detecting the positions of the rotor (11) for holding a transmitter-receiver element rotatably and the position of the element, and an MR (magnetic resistance) sensor (2) as the position detection means. The MR sensor (2) is an ultrasonic search unit present in a liquid and a substrate (4) for forming the pattern of the MR sensor (2) is constituted of silicon nitride. In such a case that the MR sensor (2) comprises glass, the surface thereof is coated with a resin coating layer or glass wool and the resin coating layer provided thereon to uniformize heat radiation.
