<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read information from two or more kinds of transaction medium, wherein information is recorded at a different position and in a different direction, in a handling device for transaction medium such as a bankbook. <P>SOLUTION: This handling device is provided with a carrying mechanism for carrying the bankbook and a moving mechanism for moving a magnetic head for reading the information contained in magnetic stripes. When a bankbook, in which a magnetic stripe fitting position is unclear, is inserted, the handling device moves the magnetic head, while carrying the bankbook, to scan the magnetic head obliquely in relation to the bankbook. An output corresponding to the magnetic stripe attaching position is obtained from the magnetic head. In response to the detecting time from a start of scanning to obtaining of output and an amplitude of the output, position and direction of the magnetic stripe can be specified. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
