PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of uniformly charging, suppressing the film-shaving of a charge injection layer on the image carrier surface by reducing an abrasion between the image carrier and a contact charging member, and then, capable of outputting a stable image of high quality over a long period, as for a charge-injection charging system of injecting the charge to the image carrier surface through charging accelaration particles existing in a nip part between the image carrier and the contact charging part. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a means for charging the surface of an image carrier 1 through conductive particles lying in a contact part of the image carrier 1 with a contact charging member 2. The conductive particles are inorganic particulates processed with silicone oil, and the release ratio of the silicone oil on the conductive particles is controlled to be 50 to 85%.
