<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a konjak mannan (KM) derivative utilized as a cosmetic, a medicine and a food. <P>SOLUTION: Purified or finely powdered KM (0.2 g) is dipped in DMF [dimethylformamide; (CH<SB>3</SB>)<SB>2</SB>NCHO] containing water (0-0.1 mL) in a molar amount of 0-15 times of hydroxy groups in the KM for 12 h and swelled. A DMF-SO<SB>3</SB>complex (30 mL) in an amount of 1.4 M is then added and reacted at 25°C for 1 h. The resultant reaction product is then charged into acetone to stop the reaction. The formed precipitate is washed with the acetone several times, then dissolved in water and neutralized with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. The resultant neutralized precipitate is subsequently dialyzed with deionized water. An aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide for obtaining a sodium salt of the reaction product is then added. The reaction product is subsequently precipitated in a solution of an acetone-water mixture (9:1) and the product is washed with an acetone-water mixture liquid. The resultant product is redissolved in water and the resultant sulfated KM is then recovered by freeze-drying. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
