PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reinforcing fiber which has excellent oil resistance, excellent tackiness and excellent flexural fatigue and is suitable for producing rubber products, such as timing belts, using high saturated H-NBR using a peroxide as a vulcanization agent, and to provide a method for producing the reinforcing fiber. SOLUTION: This fiber having a first coating film formed from a first coating agent and having a second coating film formed on the first coating film with the second coating agent is characterized in that the first coating agent comprises a water-soluble resorcinol/formaldehyde condensate, a solid acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer latex, and a liquid acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer latex and further that the second coating agent comprises an uncured phenolic resin and a rubber.
