PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively avoid inappropriate works on attached containers even in the case that inappropriate containers are attached to a holding mechanism. SOLUTION: A reaction container 100 has an approximately flat side surface to be pressed to a receiving part 230 of the reaction container holding mechanism and does not have any depressions or recessions. A container for water supply or a container 500 for drain has a recession part 520 in a side surface to be pressed to the receiving part 230 of the reaction container holding mechanism. The reaction container holding mechanism has both a sensor 242a and a sensor 242b provided for both sides of the receiving part 230 for detecting the presence or absence of the recession part 520 of an attached container. The sensor 242a and the sensor 242b are the same devices and each have a retractable pin 244a and a pin 244b protruded from a contact surface 232 of the receiving part 230 and output, for example, binary signals according to the advance or retreat of the pin 244a and the pin 244b.
