PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure an adequate reading light volume in an image reading device using a contact type image sensor even if a manuscript placed on a manuscript table is floating, in order to prevent fogging of a read-out image. SOLUTION: The image sensor unit comprises a light source for illuminating an image information surface of a manuscript, an image forming means for forming an image of reflected light from the manuscript to guide on an one-dimensional light receiving element array, a frame for holding collectively the light source, the image forming means, and the one-dimensional light receiving element array. The light source includes a plurality of light emitting devices and light guiding members. The light guiding members direct light from the light emitting devices to the manuscript. In upper/lower directions on a reading line, a peak of light volume from the light guiding members is set to a position different for each light guiding member. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
