PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a surface acoustic wave resonator forming an interdigital electrode 14 for converting an electric signal into a surface acoustic wave and constituting a waveguide for a surface acoustic wave on the surface of a piezoelectric substrate 12, wherein a plurality of resonate vibration points are provided and resonance characteristics is made regulable. SOLUTION: Outer circumferential shape of an electrode is defined and the size of oscillation mode distribution of a remarked order in respective oscillation modes being summed is made variable by apodizing the intersection width in the interdigital electrode 14 into a shape corresponding to a function represented by a plurality of mode sums.
