PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a banknote handling device capable of handling two denominations in one recycle box and one cassette, capable of obviating the need of collecting and separating banknotes in a badly carried form, and capable of reducing rejects in loading to increase a loading rate. SOLUTION: This device has a carrying passage including a temporary hold part for carrying banknotes and for temporarily holding banknotes carried from a gateway and determined to be acceptable into the recycle box by a determination part. When the banknotes are entered into the recycle box from the cassette, the temporary hold part temporarily holds the banknotes determined to be normal by the determination part and the banknotes determined to be doubly fed or rejected by mixing them, and pays out the banknotes held in the temporary hold part when delivery of the banknotes from the cassette is stopped. In particular, the temporary hold part holds the banknotes of a first denomination determined to doubly delivered or rejected, a predetermined number of banknotes of a second denomination, and the banknotes of the first denomination determined to doubly delivered or rejected in that order. The determination part re-determines the banknotes rendered from the temporary hold part. The carrying passage is used for carrying, to the recycle box, the banknotes determined to be acceptable by the re-determination of the determination part. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
