PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive optical spectrum monitor which requires neither a reference light nor a photodiode array. SOLUTION: The monitor is provided with a wavelength selection means which performs filtering of two or more wavelengths contained in a light, a diffraction means which divides the selected light into its spectral components according to the wavelength, and photodiodes which are irradiated by the diffracted light components and which measure their wavelengths and powers.
