PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copper-based bearing material which can be formed into a bearing, has a high strength, and can be remarkably thinned and narrowed. SOLUTION: An iron alloy layer 3 of a back metal 3 comprises nickel of 17 to 26 mass%, cobalt of 6 to 13 mass%, molybdenum of 2 to 10 mass% and aluminum and/or titanium of 0.1 to 2.5 mass%, and the balance iron with unavoidable impurities. Because the iron alloy layer has a high strength together with toughness after being solution-treated, the obtained material can be formed into the bearing. Accordingly, the bearing can be greatly thinned and narrowed compared to that consisting of conventional bearing materials with the back metal of a low carbon steel. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
