Device for measuring the weight of a vehicle crossing onto a bridge or similar comprises detectors (11d, 11g) for measuring the vertical deflection of supports (2d, 2g) for one end of the bridge apron (1). The deflection of the supports is measured for each axle to give a weight for each axle. The total of the weights for each axle equals the vehicle weight. If this exceeds a predetermined limit an alarm or other action can be triggered. An Independent claim is made for a method for measuring the weight of a vehicle crossing onto a bridge or similar.
