PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating method for an internal combustion engine equipped with a compressor and especially a turbo charger renewing a surge occurrence limit during operation of the internal combustion engine so as to prevent the occurrence of compressor surging. SOLUTION: In the operating method of the internal combustion engine 1 equipped with the compressor 5, in order to prevent surging of the compressor 5, pressure ratio before and behind the compressor 5 is regulated by the surge occurrence limit as a function of mass flow rate in the compressor. In at least one operation state of the internal combustion engine 1, it is examined whether the surging of the compressor 5 occurs or not, and the surge occurrence limit is corrected as the function of the examined result.
