PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying an epoxy resin by treating a discolored polyhydric-phenol epoxy resin manufactured by a known method with an alkali in a specific solvent, so as to pale the color. SOLUTION: According to this method for purifying an epoxy resin, a polyhydric-phenol epoxy resin is dissolved into a solvent comprising an alcohol in an amount of 4-20 wt.% per the epoxy resin and an aromatic hydrocarbon, and the mixture is treated with an aqueous solution comprising an alkali metal hydroxide at 50-80°C.
