PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified electroconductive polymer material having great durability against oxidation/reduction and controlled electroconductivity because an electroconductive polymer that has repetitive stability for the oxidation/reduction (doping/dedoping) reaching a practical level is merely illustrated by polyaniline though the repetitive stability for the oxidation/reduction (doping/dedoping) of an electroconductive polymer is usually regarded as excellent, and polypyrrole, polythiophene, etc., which are as famous as the polyaniline are not turned to practical use as a positive electrical element mainly in problems of the durability. SOLUTION: The modified electroconductive polymer material is obtained by filling interstices between polymer chains with a metal in an oxidized state (a partially hydroxylated state) by chemical reactions of three of metal-cation radical and dication-adsorbed water. A metal having a smaller work function than that of the electroconductive polymer is used as the metal. The electroconductive polymer is brought into contact with the metal to provide a state in which the three of the metal-cation radical and dication-adsorbed water coexist to improve the durability of the electroconductive polymer material against the oxidation/reduction. Thereby, the electroconductivity can be controlled. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
