摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent releasing an idle stop state, and to prevent unnecessary fuel consumption, though keeping the idle stop state is preferable in a hybrid electric automobile. <P>SOLUTION: The engine control system and method of the hybrid electric automobile include an engine; a motor united to one side of the engine; and a controlling portion receiving one or more signal indicating vehicular actuating conditions, and controlling the actuation of the engine on the basis of the received signal. The controlling portion is programmed to execute control logic including a step determining whether an established idle stop condition is satisfied or not on the basis of the one or more signal; a step going into the idle stop state when it is determined that the established idle stop condition is satisfied; and a step releasing the idle stop state when a reverse range on signal is detected in the idle stop state and if the reverse range on signal is continued for a specified period. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
