PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hinge mechanism for an original cover where a hinge holding member is not damaged even by the repeated opening/closing operation of an original cover and which is excellent in durability. SOLUTION: The hinge mechanism for the original cover is equipped with the original cover 10a for pressing and fixing an original placed on an original platen, a hinge part H for supporting the cover 10a to freely open/close, a resilient member 34 installed in the hinge part H so as to bias the cover 10a in an opening direction, and the hinge holding member 33 provided in a device body so as to house and hold the member 34, and load torque to bias the cover 10a in the opening direction is made to remain in the hinge part H in a state where the cover 10a is closed.
