PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a track spacing measurement method and a measuring apparatus for measuring the spacing of respective tracks that are adjacent each other with sufficient accuracy while driving a measurement vehicle at a speed that is equivalent to a normal vehicle operational speed. SOLUTION: The orbital spacing measuring apparatus comprises an adjacent track position detection section 10 having a rail approximate position detection means 10a and a rail precise position detection means 10b; an own track position detection section 20; and a track spacing operation section 30. The rail approximate position detection means 10a performs rail approximate position detection processing to adjacent tracks to detect an approximate position from its own track 1A in respective rails 3A, 3B of an adjacent track 1B. The rail precise position detection means 10b performs rail precise position detection processing to the respective rails 3A, 3B of the adjacent track 1B based on the approximate position to detect the precise position from its own track 1A in the respective rails 3A, 3B.
