PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a coating film which has excellent adhesivity to all substrates and existing coating films, excellent adhesivity to an undercoating material and a topcoating material and high durability. SOLUTION: A substrate is coated with an aqueous undercoating material comprising a synthetic resin emulsion as a main component having -10 to 40°C glass transition temperature which is obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture which comprises 70-95 wt.% of a hydrophobic monomer and 5-30 wt.% of a hydrophilic monomer and in which the hydrophilic monomer has the molar ratio of an epoxy group-containing monomer/the whole hydrophilic monomer of≥0.5 and the molar ratio of a monomer to be reacted with the epoxy group/the whole hydrophilic monomer of≤0.05. Then the substrate is coated with a topcoating material comprising a synthetic resin containing a functional group to be reacted with the epoxy group. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
