<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-lived and supersensitive photo detector and photon detector using a diamond cold cathode. <P>SOLUTION: This invention is characterized in that diamond is used as a cold cathode for an imaging element, without relying on manufacturing methods such as a natural high-pressure high-temperature synthesizing method, a vapor-phase epitaxy method, and a combustion flame method. The surface of the diamond is chemically stable and can be used as an electron emission source capable of operating at a low vacuum. Further, an electron emission at a lower electric field is confirmed as compared with other cold cathodes using metal or a semiconductor. If the diamond cold cathode is used together with an existing photoelectric transfer element, a supersensitive imaging element easy to manufacture, having long life can be produced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
