PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for discriminating the quantity of T-Fe (the total amount of Fe) and Fe<SP>2+</SP>from the content of Fe<SP>3+</SP>in a desulfurizing agent solution containing Fe-EDTA (Fe-ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) used in gasification melting facilities and determining them. SOLUTION: A fraction liquid 1 is collected from the desulfurizing agent solution as it is or from the desulfurizing agent solution of which the concentration is regulated by deionized water. A reducing agent, a pH buffer agent, and a color coupler are added to the fraction liquid 1 to bring about a reaction. The content of Fe<SP>2+</SP>of the liquid acquired by the reaction is measured by absorptiometry. The measured value is taken as the total amount of Fe. A fraction liquid 2 is collected from the desulfurizing agent solution as it is or the desulfurizing agent solution of which the concentration is regulated by deionized water. A pH buffer agent solution and a color coupler are added to the fraction liquid 2 to bring about a reaction. The content of Fe<SP>2+</SP>of the liquid acquired by the reaction is measured by absorptiometry. The measured value is taken as the content of Fe<SP>2+</SP>. Through the use of the total amount of Fe and the content of Fe<SP>2+</SP>, the content of Fe<SP>3+</SP>is calculated from [%Fe<SP>3+</SP>]=[%T-Fe]-[%Fe<SP>2+</SP>]. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
