PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device for a vehicle capable of securely exhibiting failsafe function without reducing steering feeling and in which varying property of rudder angle relative to operation of an operating member by a driver can be varied by control of an actuator. SOLUTION: The rotating member 12 of an operating side mechanically coupled to operating member 2 and the rotating member 13 of an wheel side mechanically coupled to wheels 4 so as to rotate according to rudder angle change by the movement of the actuator 3 for steering are mechanically coupled by a transmission mechanism 20 in such a manner that rotation can be transmitted relative to each other and a rotation transmission ratio can be varied. The actuator 39 for controlling the rotation transmission ratio by the transmission mechanism 20 and the actuator 3 for steering are controlled according to the operation of the operating member 2. When the operating direction of the operating member 2 and the changing direction of the rudder angle is not equal, the actuator 39 is controlled such that the changing ratio of operating torque acting to the operating member 2 to the change of the manipulated variable of the operating member 2 becomes greater than when they are equal.
