PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit E-mail requested from a main client without delay by using a substitutive mail server even when a mail server can not be used because of maintenance or fault. SOLUTION: When the mail server stops a mail delivery program, the mail server transmits such a status and information on the substitutive mail server to mail client devices under control thereof. Each mail client changes setting of the device according to the received information. The information on the substitutive mail server is transmitted in advance together with time to start using the mail server or is transmitted when an operating status of the mail server is changed, to be prepared for the maintenance or fault of the mail server.
