Disclosed is an oil-in-water emulsion comprising hydrophobic nanodrops in a hydrophilic phase. Hemoglobin molecules are bound to the surface of the nanodrops and the hemoglobin molecules are cross-linked to each other. Preferably, said emulsion is suitable for use as a blood substitute.
