The optical fibre (L) has a polymer light conducting body supplied with light at one end, with propagation of the light along the light conducting body by total internal reflection at its peripheral boundary surface. The outer surface of the polymer body is partially roughened (5) with the light reflected from the roughened surface exiting the light conducting body at the opposite side of the latter.
