The safety method has images of the danger area (58) adjacent the automatic machine (60) recorded via at least 2 cameras which are offset from one another, the obtained images subjected to 3-dimensional scene analysis using 2 different analysis algorithms, for detection of a foreign object within the danger area, allowing the latter to be made safe. An Independent claim for a safety device for protecting a danger area of an automatic machine is also included.
