<p>The present invention relates to an endoscope suitable for viewing at a proximal end thereof an object at a distal end thereof located in an individual's body. The endoscope comprises an elongate housing having a rigid distal portion housing an objective lens means operative to form an image of the object, and a coherent fibre bundle operative to relay said image to the proximal end of the endoscope for viewing. The endoscope may be a spinal endoscope of generally elliptical cross-section.</p>
