Method for adjusting the dispersion of a liquid crystal (LC) material (M1) by selecting the individual components so that the relative dispersion width (sigma DELTA n/DELTA nmix) of the double refraction value (DELTA ni) of the components is 0.50 or more. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a nematic LC medium (M2) comprising components A with DELTA n 0.08 or less; optionally components B with DELTA n 0.081-0.149, and components C with DELTA n 0.150 or more; and (2) electro-optical displays that contain M1 or M2.
