An optical waveguide device as a planner lightwave circuit capable of realizing sophisticated function as the planner lightwave circuit device. The optical waveguide device comprises a first clad layer, a core formed on the first clad layer to guide the light, and a second clad formed on the first clad layer and the core so as to surround the core. The core comprises a trunk part forming a trunk of the core, and a part of a layer structure which is formed on both side surfaces of the trunk part in the longitudinal direction and substantially vertical to the surface forming the first clad layer.
