Vehicle seat (1) comprises a back rest (2), a seat pad (3), a seat chassis (4), a seat chassis arm (5) arranged on the seat chassis with a hinge (7) or a deformation region and a drive (8) so that a pre-determined section (9) of the seat pad is deformed on actuation of the drive, and a normality sensor (12) actuating the drive on identification of a defined traveling situation. An Independent claim is also included for a process for monitoring a seat position in which in a normal traveling situation the seat is adjusted into a first position and in an abnormal traveling position the seat is adjusted into a second or third position. Preferred Features: The normality sensor is triggered on exceeding a pre-determined acceleration of the sensor in at least one pre-determined direction.
