PURPOSE: An electric iron with a safety device is provided to improve the reliability by mechanically moving a hot plate up regardless of wrong operation of electric components, and to prevent fire and power waste by automatically cutting off power in neglecting the iron. CONSTITUTION: A safety device of an electric iron separates a hot plate(200) from clothes with moving the hot plate up if a user does not press clothes with letting the iron go in supplying power. The safety device comprises a lever(310) connected to a handle of a body and turned up and down; a hot plate separation member(320) mounted in the front end of the lever and protruded under the hot plate via through holes of the body and the hot plate; a thermal insulating member(400) extended from the rear end of the hot plate and fixed to the lower part of the body to be lower than the bottom of the hot plate; and an elastic member(330) installed between the lever and the handle to support the lever for protruding the hot plate separation member from the hot plate in absence of external force.
