Method for measuring the angular velocity of the pump motor of a hydraulic pump system in which the hydraulic fluid is driven by the pump into a pump store. The method has the following steps: capture of a pressure signal representing the transporting activity of the pump; detection of pressure peaks within the pressure signal; and determination of the rotational velocity of the pump motor based on the frequency of the peaks or the time between them. An Independent claim is made for a device for measuring a hydraulic pump angular velocity with a pump pressure sensor (68) linked to a processor (70) for sensor signal evaluation.
