Clearing tool (7) for processing a bearing cap recess in the crankcase of an internal combustion engine is designed as a clearing beam (70) equipped in a first section (8) with punches (9) for producing groove-like recesses and in a second section (10) with pressure tools (11, 110) for work-hardening the recesses. Blades (13) for processing fitting regions are arranged in a third section (12). Preferred Features: Additional blades are optionally provided in the first and third sections for processing the bearing cap bearing surfaces. The additional blade in the first section performs the initial processing and the additional blade in the third section performs the final processing.
