A socket is installed in a road or pavement surface to provide the foundation for a tubular item of street furniture e.g. a flexible bollard. The socket has a diameter of 60 mm and accommodates a bollard made of e.g. steel or plastic and is attached to the socket (P1) by a steel spring (P3) and a wire (P5) with a tensioning device (P7) linking the bollard and socket (P7).
