PURPOSE: A trifunctional (meth)acrylate ester monomer, its preparation method and a dental restorative composition containing the monomer are provided, to reduce polymerization shrinkage, water absorption and water solubility of a dental restorative composite resin. CONSTITUTION: The trifunctional (meth)acrylate ester monomer is represented by the formula 1, wherein R is H, CH3 or an aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbon group of C2-C20; R1 is H or CH3; and R2 is CH3 or an aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbon group of C2-C20. The method comprises the step of reacting the compound of the formula 4 with the compound of the formula 5. Also, another method comprises the step of reacting the compound of the formula 4 with the compound represented by R2COCl in the presence of a catalyst. Preferably the catalyst is triethylamine. The dental restorative composition comprises at least one monomer of the formula 1; and a polymerization initiator. Preferably the polymerization initiator is camphorquinone or benzoyl peroxide.
