A bridge for a stringed instrument, e.g. violin, cello etc., comprises a thin hard wood sheet with the strings supported on the curved upper edge (1) and with two feet (2, 3) to press onto the curved body (7) of the instrument. The bridge has conventional cut-outs, e.g. an upper central kidney shaped cut-out (6) and two lateral cuts-outs (4, 5), plus an additional cut-out (8) to reduce weight, increase flexibility and to provide a fuller tone transfer to the body. The additional cut-out is in the lower middle of the bridge, under the two lateral cut-outs and has a symmetrical triangular shape, apex upwards. The two sides of the triangle are concave and the base is flat and parallel to the bottom edge of the bridge. The bridge can be made of maple.
