<p>A fixation device (10) includes a hollow outer member (12) and an inner member (14) that can be slideably inserted into outer member (12). The fixation device (10) further includes a plurality of pins (16, 18) The outer member (12) further includes a plurality of openings (24, 26). The inner member (14) is provided with a plurality of pin receiving means which include a plurality of grooves or cavities formed in the inner member (14). The pin receiving means for pin (16) comprises a groove (32). Groove (32) is of increasing depth in a direction from the first end (20) of pin (16) to the second end (22) of pin (16). Spherical enlargement (34) of groove (32) partially encases the second end (22) such that the second end (22) of pin (16) cannot move longitudinally along the inner member. The groove (32) is also shaped and sized such that first end (20) of pin (16) comes into contact with edge (28) of opening (24). Continued movement of the inner member (14) causes the pins (16, 18) to rotate outwardly about the second end and ends thereof and to extend the pins.</p> |
