A method for controlling an application process in a distributed system having at least one client (C) and at least one server (S), in which the system is organized according to a multi-tier model, and comprises at least a first presentation layer, a second layer and a third data layer. The second layer is organized fully as a micro-kernel based client/server and between the first and second layers is provided an interface in the form of a message, in which a server entry comprises at least the following steps: the client translates the server entry into a message with the respective arguments and the client sends the message to the server, and the entry is relayed and fully processed and the result of the entry is returned via the message. Independent claims are included for (A) a client/server-system for controlling an application process (B) a computer program product and (C) a device for carrying out an application process.
