A method of improving the fulfillment of prescription orders by patients (4), characterized by the steps of a medical professional (2) writing a prescription utilizing a paperless prescription writing system (6), typically at the point of care, for treatment of a patient's conditions; transmitting a paperless prescription to a pharmacy (26) for fulfillment; and contemporaneously with writing and transmitting the prescription, distributing a sample of the pharmaceutical prescription to the patient (4). Pharmaceutical product identification codes associated with the sample and patient identification information (8) are electronically transmitted to a pharmacy (26) for fulfilling the prescription. The sample distribution, prescription order, and prescription fulfillment information are transmitted to a prescription/sample distribution database (24) for distribution to pharmaceutical manufacturers (30), pharmacies (26), advertisers, etc. The prescription/sample distribution data may be utilized to generate statistical analyses of patient's prescription fulfillment and sample distribution. |
