The mechanism for cutting up foodstuffs comprises a rotating blade (10) which is Z-shaped. The central section (12) of the blade is vertical while the outer sections (11, 13) are horizontal. Independent claims are included for: (a) a household appliance fitted with the mechanism; and (b) a method for cutting up foodstuffs using the mechanism.
