A can opener has an upper arm (1) and a lower arm (2) which pivot about a common point (41). Each arm terminates in cutting edges which are advanced by a wheel (4) with a wing-lever (5) and are presented to the can wall. The wheel is coupled to a pressure face with numerous equidistantly spaced shallow and deeper depressions (281, 282).
