The invention relates to a device that is used for the authentication and payment of a real transaction or a transaction made on a commercial site over the Internet by the holder (T) of a bank account (BQ2). The inventive device is characterised in that it consists of: a support (10) comprising a number (16) which is correlated with a password (MP) that is assigned to the account holder and, optionally, to a validity date (DV) for said number; and a secure authentication platform S containing each number/password pair stored in the memory thereof as well as the validity date, said platform being connected to a banking communication network (RC) that manages the owner's (T) account (BQ2). The invention also relates to the method of using the inventive device.
